The national debt increased $5.3 trillion since the President's inauguration.  It is true that the growth rate in spending is low.  The problem is federal goverment spending a greater percentage of the nation's gross domestic product.

The Charts Every Voter Should Understand

In early 2009, arguing for the $900+Billion stimulus, the Obama administration published its forecast.  The light blue line was the forecast of unemployment if the stimulus bill failed.  The dark blue line predicted the unemployment rate if it passed.  The red dots are actual unemployment figures.
If discouraged workers (who are not counted in unemployment figures) stayed in the work force, our reported unemployment would be 11%.

Now this one is a little more complicated, but shows a bigger picture, combining population figures with unemployment and participation in the work force.  The recession was bad--the "recovery" even worse because the unemployment rate is going down because the number of people staying in the work force is dropping:

The result is that the unemployment rate looks like it's going down, but the number of people who actually hold jobs is lower.

James Grant addresses the NY Fed.  A little dense for casual readers, but the core is plain:  if the Federal Reserve keeps treating money as a policy tool rather than as a predictable medium of exchange that provides reliable price feedback (gold backed, per Grant), the economy will never be stable and will not recover.

USCCB: An Unjust Law Must Not Be Obeyed

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has published Our First, Most Cherished Liberty, a call to defend the rights of every American to the free exercise of religion.  The conference calls the HHS contraception/sterilization mandate an unjust law, not to be obeyed.  Father John A. Hardon, S.J., argued that we, now, are living in the age of martyrs,   We are living in the Age of Martyrs, as millions of Christians died for the Faith in the 20th century, red martyrdom.

Hardon also spoke of white, or bloodless, martyrdom, suffering for witnessing to the Faith. Looks like another opportunity is coming.
